 THE NEED?

Education empowers participants to tackle key issues that affect them

WHAT WE DID?

Our focus on re-engagement and getting activities back up and running meant 36% fewer workshops were delivered than in the previous year.

THE IMPACT

*All four statistics listed above refer to Wicketz and Super 1s participants only

VICTOR

Victor first started attending the Barking and Dagenham Super 1s hub in 2019. He lives with a physical disability affecting his lower body and his mobility. Initially Victor was very shy and liked to keep himself to himself, not speaking much or joining in as he felt very anxious about getting involved in any cricket activities or meeting new people.

Being part of Super 1s has really helped Victor in overcoming these challenges, both physical and emotional. Playing cricket with Super 1s has made him feel good about himself and given him independence, as well as the opportunity to take part in regular activity which assists his mobility. Participating has also helped him achieve the goals he has set himself – improving his own batting skills whilst helping and encouraging others in the team. We now see him making new friends and showing signs of increased confidence every time he attends the hub.

“Victor has come so far in a short space of time; he is really flourishing as a young person and with the progress he has made, he can help others at the hub progress and flourish as well.”
Essex Super 1s Development Officer, Bradley Donovan
